In my freshman year Photoshop class, we were challenged to design a paper currency for the city of Providence. This project challenged us to use our own original photography from around the city, in order to find a unique take on the design of our currency. I was still new to Providence at the time, but one of my favorite things about the city is all of the beautiful murals we have here. Since Providence is the “Creative Capitol”, I wanted my designs to include these murals that show off the city’s local creatives. I decided to use murals that specifically had a person’s face in them, similar to how our currency has portraits on all of them. I had a few portraits in mind, and the rest I just got to explore the city and look for.
For my final design, I used different portrait murals from across the city. I tried to center the faces in the middle and fit the information along the sides and in the corners. I decided to color code each bill, similar to how Canadian bills are each a different color because I think that’s a useful and efficient feature for dollar bills.
